Life Update

October 27, 2021

Well its been a while, I know! But you know how life gets when you’re in the middle of DOING life, right?! As most of you know we moved to San Antonio, Texas and its been such a wonderful experience so far. We know this is the path God has ordained for my family and I. Before I go on and on about how much we are loving this new city, let me just share how it all came to be.

We all experienced the lockdown in different ways. That saying “ we are all in this together” would make me cringe because, yes, its true we are all being forced to quarantine but we are in different boats that’s for sure. I even wrote a blog about it HERE! Now that I look back on those long months, I can see how much my own spiritual and emotional state was holding on by a small thread. I was angry that we were forced to hit pause on our lives, all because of this over exaggerated political scheme of Covid. Now while I know Covid is real and it affected many people who were of high risk, I also know it was used to control and manipulate us all.

I strongly believe that God will use our experiences to help us grow. During 2020, I was certainly in the valley and having all the feelings of lost , anxious and living with no direction. It felt like this situation was never going to end because restrictions kept getting worse and worse. I decided one day that it was enough, I no longer was going to live abiding by these ridiculous “rules.” I remember I would put on worship music in my kitchen often because I was either making meals or I was cleaning and I would just cry out to God to change our situation. At the time I didn't ask for anything specifically, I just knew my family and I needed a change because we were drowning.

As if Covid wasn’t enough to endure, we also knew that we needed a change in certain areas of Adam and I’s personal life in friendships and places we served in. There comes a time when an environment is no longer a space of rest or growth, so it is time to move on. We’ve always been a couple that loves to serve together wholeheartedly but when its affecting you personally and your family, then it is time to step away and make changes. Sometimes to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, it means to walk away. Its better for your sanity, for the ministry and your family.

So when Adam’s job offered him a promotion to open a new office in San Antonio, Texas we instantly knew this was God opening a door for us. Looking back, I know God brought us to a point in our lives where we had to analyze our current living situations and make the changes. We had an open heart to accept whatever He showed us.

We’ve been adapting to our new life in Texas and have been embracing every experience that comes our way. These past 3 months we have felt a shift in our spirit, hearts and marriage. It’s a beautfiul and peaceful feeling to know God has been leading the way. There’s times I look at Adam and tell him “ I am so grateful we moved, I can’t believe we didn’t move sooner” but God knew this was the appointed time. The kids have been doing great as well. There’s been a sense of normalcy of being back inside school for them and I started a job 2 months ago and I have been enjoying juggling work, carpool and mom life. I also picked up running as a way of refreshing my soul and mind from everything I went through 2020. I am so grateful for everything that happened because at the end of it all, God is still good!

Im sharing this life update not to boast about how good life is but to share how amazing God is, He always hears our prayers and he responds on his timing. I pray that you stay encouraged when you are in the valley of your situation and when you feel like you need to make changes. Pray and follow his direction. God closes doors on you only to open up new ones. Also, I’d like to thank God for placing friends during this time that were there to hear me out, gave me advice and being patient with me. The times you answered my calls, took walks with me, invited me to your home or invited me out to hang out, I will forever be grateful with you.

One of the bible verses that I wrote down during this time was “trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6.

Weekend in Dallas

January 30, 2017

I will use any excuse to travel, so when Adam is sent somewhere on business and I have a babysitter, you better believe I'm tagging along for the weekend.  If it's during the summer then the boys will come with us as well.

It was our first time visiting Texas and since we only had a few days, we decided to use that time to only explore the city of Dallas.  Although, on Friday, when I arrived Adam surprised me and took me to Fort Worth (about 45 mins away) to see country singer Sammy Kershaw at a place called Billy Bob's.  I'd never seen anything like it, especially in California, but I loved it.  It had everything country and I just soaked it all in.  So what do you eat before going to hear country music? Barbecue...Texas barbecue that is.   We went to the Pecan Lodge for dinner and it was so delicious I had to use the corn bread to clean up the plate.

Saturday morning we grabbed a coffee and pastry and went to the Sixth Floor Museum.  (TIP: buy tickets online before to skip the line). This kind of history fascinates me, so seeing the street where JFK was assassinated made it all so real.

Let me talk about the hotel we stayed at for moment...it was so cute.  The rest of the afternoon we spent it there.  We had lunch in the dining room and some coffee in their fancy lobby.  Part of me wanted to get out and explore some more, but the other part of me wanted to just relax, since that's not a normal thing for us to do. So, that's exactly what we did!

On Sunday morning, I was slightly dreading the part of waking up early to go visit TD Jakes' church...The Potter's House. However, that's what Adam really wanted to do. I'm sure glad we did, because that ended up being my favorite part of the trip.  If you saw my snapchats, then you saw the new kid's building tour we took.  It was pretty much the coolest thing I've ever seen at a church.

See below for all the links of the places we visited in Dallas.

Oh yeah! How did I forget to tell you about our "15 minutes of fame"? We were in the Bishop Arts District looking at all the cute shops, when we ran into a production crew from the Food Network.  It was such a cool experience. I only know its The Great Food Truck Race show in Dallas. I'll snap about it if I see it air.  #fingerscrossed

Hotel : Le Meridien Dallas, The Stoneleigh

Restaurants:

Pecan Lodge / Knife / El Bolero / Cafe Victoria / Lockhart Smoke House

Places:

Sixth Floor Museum / Billy Bob's / Potter's House

There's so many other places to visit if, we had time, what are your favorite places to visit in Dallas or in nearby cities?

xoxo, crystal cara
